Fake QR Code |
QR codes are now commonly used for payments, parking, menu ordering and accessing websites, but criminals are increasingly using fake QR codes to trick people into visiting fraudulent websites. These websites can be designed to steal personal information, login details or banking information.
Before scanning a QR code, take a moment to check that it appears genuine and has not been placed over another code. After scanning, always check the website address before entering any personal or payment details. Be particularly cautious of QR codes found on public notices, parking machines or unsolicited emails and messages.
If something doesn't look right, don't scan it. A few extra seconds checking can help protect you from fraud.
